THREE SCOOBIES ON CARNEGIE/GREENAWAY SHORTLISTS
This year, books by three SCBWI stalwarts made it to the KidLit world's most coveted shortlists: the Carnegie - Greenaway Children's Book Awards handed out yearly by CILIP, the library and information association. The House With Chicken Legs by Sophie Anderson and Bone Talk by Candy Gourlay were shortlisted for the Carnegie. You're Safe With Me by Chitra Soundar, illustrated by Poonam Mistry was listed for the Greenaway.
THIRD ASTRID LINDGREN NOMINATION FOR ARTIST
JOHN SHELLEY
Illustrator John Shelley has been listed for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award for the third time. 237 candidates from 68 countries were on the list for 2020 presented by the jury at the Frankfurt Book Fair on 17 Oct 2019.
NATASCHA GARNERS MBE AND LAUNCHES THE CRAYON MAN
British Isles regional advisor Natascha Biebow has done SCBWI proud with an MBE for her long service to the KidLit world. Her debut non fiction picture book The Crayon Man is winning honours too – from being selected a Junior Library Guild book to being named one of the 'Best Picture Book Biographies Done Exceedingly Well' for 2019 on the School Library Journal's Fuse #8 Production blog.
MATT KILLEEN WINS CRYSTAL KITE AWARD
Matt Killeen is shown accepting the Crystal Kite Award dressed as Hilda at SCBWI's fancy dress mass book launch, it culminated a much awarded year for Matt's bestselling debut Orphan Monster Spy, including being shortlisted for everything from the Amazing Book Awards to the Costa Book Award.

FLYING TIPS FOR FLIGHTLESS BIRDS IN AWARDS STREAK
Flying Tips for Flightless Birds by Belfast SCBWI Kelly McCaughrain has won a handful of awards in Ireland: the Eilis Dillon Award, the Children's Choice Award, Children's Books Ireland Book of the Year and Northern Ireland Book Award. It has been shortlisted for the Great Reads Awards, Essex School Library Book Awards, and the Calderdale Children's Book of the Year.
SUE WALLMAN THRILLERS STILL DEAD POPULAR
Lying About Last Summer, the first of Sue Wallman's thriller trilogy won many prizes including the Zoella Book Club. So did book two: Your Turn To Die. Book three, Dead Popular, is keeping up with its siblings, recently winning awards from Highgate Wood and Maidstone.
WHITE RAVENS LIST PICKS TWO SCBWI AUTHORS
The Munich based International Youth Library has named Bone Talk by Candy Gourlay and Night of the Party by Tracey Mathias as 'White Ravens' – a selection of books "that inspire and provoke, set new trends, and are of the highest quality in terms of language, content and artistry."
RAPUNZEL'S CURLS WIN POETRY PRIZE FOR LAURA
Laura Mucha has won the inaugural YorkMix Poems for Children Competition for her poem ‘Rapunzel’ [And sweet Rapunzel’s golden curls / would slowly tumble and unfurl / allowing Witch to clamber up / (occasionally getting stuck).] The poem will appear in Laura's poetry collection, out in 2020.
